Wasatch Crest Mutual Insurance Company in Liquidation
Wasatch Crest Mutual Insurance Company was placed into liquidation by order of the Third Judicial District Court, Salt Lake County, Utah on July 31, 2003. The Commissioner of Insurance sought an order of Liquidation based on the finding that Wasatch Crest Mutual Insurance Company was insolvent, according to the definition of “insolvency” in Utah Code Ann. 31-A-1-301-(77) (2001) (amended 2003 under Utah Code Ann. 21A-27-302(2)). The continued operation of Wasatch Crest Mutual Insurance Company in its hazardous financial condition would substantially increase the risk of loss to policyholders and creditors of Wasatch Crest Mutual Insurance Company, and the public.
Wasatch Crest Mutual was a Utah-domiciled mutual insurance company authorized to do business as a life, accident and health insurance company and was licensed by the states of of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming to write property and casualty insurance, although was primarily only actively writing insurance in Utah and Oregon at the time of liquidation.
The Bar Date for filing a claim against Wasatch Crest Mutual Insurance Company in Liquidation was July 31, 2004. All claims have been determined and approved by the court.
Proof of Claim Status
Class 2, Guaranty Association claims, have been paid at 100% of the approved claim amount.
Class 3, policy claims, have been paid at a total of 64% of the approved claim amount that was paid in 2 distributions. The initial 30% distribution was made in 2006 with an additional 34% distribution made in August of 2025.
